A woman with chronic coital pain

A 30 year old woman, 2 children, enters your consultation room alone. She is referred by her GP for gynecological examination. Her main problem is pain during intercourse, which started after the birth of her second child, about two years ago. At that time she also had some vaginal secretion. Her GP treated her with some liniment against vaginal infection. This worked for a few weeks but then the pain returned. She describes it as a very intense burning pain which starts the moment of penetration. It’s always there when having sex but it can even hold on for hours afterwards. She is using OAC (Microgynon-30), no other medication or drugs, no illnesses, no history of sexual abuse.
